Mini Vehicle Unveiled : Renault Twingo Why the 2014 Renault Twingo could be the biggest small car since the Mini ? Thanks to its rear-engined layout and cute styling, the 2014 Renault Twingo could be as influential as the Mini. Being rear-engined defines this 3.5-metre long car in several ways. First, it means that the front wheels can be pushed right to the corners, improving stability and increasing interior space. Indeed, the Twingo’s wheelbase is very close to that of the Clio, despite the car itself being considerably smaller. Second, it means that the Twingo will be rear-wheel drive, which gives it more in common with a Porsche than a Panda. We should expect - nay demand - that the Twingo is brilliant fun to drive, with terrific steering. Third and perhaps most importantly, it makes the Twingo if not innovative then certainly interesting. And interesting, so long as it’s not also bonkers (see any number of cars from the Renault back catalogue), can do wonders for selling cars. Power for the new Twingo will come from a pair of three-cylinder petrol engines; one turbocharged and producing 89bhp, the other naturally aspirated and with 69bhp. Both will use a five-speed manual gearbox and, although not confirmed, are sure to emit less than 100g/km of CO2, meaning they’ll be as cheap as the proverbial chips to run.
