Minimally or Highly Invasive Faith? “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) Billboards and media are advertising a new world of medicine—Minimally Invasive Surgery. Laparoscopic and other modern and technical advances in medical surgery now allow what was once major surgery to be done in a far more simple and less invasive manner. I recently and saw one of those advertisements, I suddenly thought about a spiritual parallel. The writer of Hebrews describes God’s Word as being living and active and sharper than a two-edged sword, so sharp and penetrating that it cuts deep enough to divide joints from marrow. God’s Word and His plan of salvation is sharp enough to divide sinful humanity from the ways of the world and give us a new life of glorious resurrection. I fear, however, that we seek faith today which is minimally invasive—a Christianity that is inconsequential, undercover, and somewhat circumstantial. Rev. G. Lee
