Minimum Wage Hearing ended just after Midnight - 12:30am to be - TopicsExpress

Minimum Wage Hearing ended just after Midnight - 12:30am to be exact. Healthy exchange by those for and against the issue. I feel the wage increase is necessary to allow workers to earn enough to improve themselves with education and professional certifications. Earning more by working hard and honestly is never wrong. Again this needs to be balanced with a business tax cut to offset rising costs. You can watch reruns of the Hearing on the Guam Legislature Channel. You will hear how some feel about why employees do not move up or earn more because they choose not to and would rather balance trays than assert themselves. You will also hear about how the idea of keeping profits on Guam, in the form of better wages is considered Socialist. Some feel it is too much to ask that some profits earned here should stay here in the form of higher minimum wages, but rather should instead be shipped off island to outside investors, without trying to keep more in the Local community. What happened to support/buy Local?...or does it not apply to the actual worker, and the Local businesses they support in their everyday lives with their minimum wage? We have many great businesses and community-minded business owners, and we need to make sure as this moves forward that we do as much as we can not to hurt consumers, the economy, or the ability for businesses to open and grow. More to come for sure. As always I will ask the questions, make the comments, and encourage a dialogue to help all of us fully understand the stakes and positions they lean on. And now, rest...Career Day talk tomorrow morning! =)
