Minister Vows to Fight Medical Tourism Abroad Abuja — The supervisory Minister of Health, Khaliru Alhassan, has disclosed that medical tourism abroad is one of his top priorities and has vowed to fight it to a standstill in Nigeria. To achieve this, he revealed that the Federal Government would soon increase the manpower and also make available modernised and state-of-the-art technological equipment to tertiary hospitals in country. Alhassan stated this while responding to questions from journalists after paying an unscheduled visit to some tertiary hospitals in Abuja on Monday. The hospitals visited included National Hospital, Federal Staff Hospital and Maitama General Hospital, all in the FCT. What we are doing is to modernise and to bring the latest technologies for them to work as it is being done in other parts of the world to ensure that Nigerians get the best of healthcare. We dont need to go anywhere to seek for medical attention. As you can see, we have all the professionals to do the job and we are sure health tourism will be a thing of the past very soon because of the transformation agenda of Mr. President. This is one of the many visits coming in the future. This is unprepared, I did not inform them, I did that to just see what my health teams are doing and I am very pleased at what I saw. The challenges I saw are work force; they still have some challenges in the area of doctors, yes, we are looking into that, we are going to augment the manpower so that there is adequate personnel to do the job, he noted. At the National Hospital, the minister, who was visibly excited with what he saw, said: As you can see, the hospital is in good hands; we met all departments working, the doctors are on their seat, the nurses are busy and I am very pleased to see what I saw that the National Hospital is answering the name it rightly has and is showing example.
