Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips has today welcomed the announcement by San Francisco ticketing company Eventbrite that it has selected Melbourne as its Asia-Pacific (APAC) headquarters, creating up to 30 new jobs. “I am delighted to announce that another leading and innovative San Francisco ICT company has chosen Melbourne as the location for its APAC headquarters,” Mr Rich-Phillips said. Elsita Meyer-Brandt, Eventbrite’s international expansion lead, said that Melbourne has shown strong traction as the technology hub of Australia and is a city of early adopters. “Melbourne is the perfect location for the company’s new headquarters, as we’ve found it to be incredibly important to surround ourselves with other technology companies and entrepreneurs that are trying to better the world through technology,” Ms Meyer-Brandt said. “Australia has long been attractive for us, given Eventbrite’s organic growth and opportunity in the market. Melbourne‘s vibrant and eclectic appetite for live experience, coupled with the city’s unique talent density and entrepreneur mentality, makes it a very natural and inspiring home for us.” Mr Rich-Phillips said that a series of recent ICT announcements by leading US companies entering the Melbourne market is adding to the strong cluster of innovation across Victoria. “Melbourne’s world-leading talent eco system is supported by the most educated workforce in the Asia-Pacific region. With nine universities and a strong network of research facilities, Melbourne is recognised internationally as the innovation capital of Australia,” Mr Rich-Phillips said. “The Victorian Government’s ICT Strategy highlights the importance of technology enablement for the economy, the general public and businesses, Mr Rich-Phillips said. A multi-category ecommerce business, Eventbrite helps bring people together through innovative online ticketing of live experiences and events, ranging from festivals and fundraisers to conferences and workshops. Eventbrite has processed over 170 million tickets and registrations worldwide, totalling more than $2 billion in gross ticket sales. In 2013 alone, Eventbrite processed 60 million tickets in 187 countries totalling more than $1 billion in gross ticket sales.
