Ministering: Dr. I.S. James Topic: Honour and Authority (Part 3) Text: Num. 27:23, Deut. 4:9 Why did God tell Moses to “Go up” onto the mountain & not “go across” into the Promised Land? The simple answer is rebellion. In his anger, he rebelled against God’s instruction. Sometimes the consequences of rebellion can be quite serious and painful to the rebellious person/people, as we see in Moses, case here Moses was barred from entering the Promised Land, but he didn’t question God or plead for leniency, he asked God for a leader for the people A leader is not just a standard or an example; he is also a restrainer, he let’s the people know the limits they can’t pass It was in response to his request that God instructed him to ordain/inaugurate Joshua as leader of Israel in his place What does it mean to ordain someone? · Preparing for & admitting people to public office · To commission someone/something · To mark the start of something · To give charge The process of ordination can take any of these forms: · Public prayers · Prophetic declaration · Laying on of hands What’s the significance of laying on of hands? · An act of ordination (Acts 5:6) · A spiritual practice (Gen 48: 11-16) · Transference of authority & responsibility · A means of imparting the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:17) · A means of transmitting & stirring up spiritual gifts (I Tim 4:14) Setting people apart for special assignments (Acts 13:2)
