Ministers Musings: The Great Cloud of Witnesses Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. - Hebrews 12:1 This past Monday morning, I was privileged to officiate at the graveside service of Norm Brooks. It was a small gathering of family in Fort Worth, Norms two daughters and his close friend. Even though we were few in number, we did not feel alone. The service was conducted in the beautiful, majestic mausoleum at Greenwood Funeral Park. As we stood there in the chapel atrium, there were names on the marble walls all around us rising twenty feet. Standing there in the midst of all those names, it actually felt like we were surrounded by a great could of witnesses. We read scripture, prayed, shared special stories and memories, and then commended Norm, our companion in faith, to Gods everlasting care. Then we watched as Norm took his place in the great cloud, right next to his wife Elizabeth, alongside all those witnesses of faith. Norm made all of our lives brighter every time we saw him, and now he is cheering us on with that Norm smile and twinkle in his eye. His everlasting encouragement helps me run the race of faith. This Sunday, November 2, we will commemorate all those saints of faith who have been associated with Creekwood Christian Church. We will recognize the members of our church who have joined the cloud of witness of in the past year, along with family loved ones of our church members. We are going to spend some time as a community of faith remembering and celebrating the witness of life and faith of some of the most treasured members of our church family. As part of the service, we will dedicate a new Advent Wreath candelabra and candle set in memory of Kasey Waychoff, whose own smile still shines on us. I hope you will make a special effort to be here Sunday for worship. We will need the strength that comes from our fellowship as we celebrate the inspiration of all the saints. Blessings, Jeff Howell
