Curriculum Development and Evaluation Director: Mr. Odunsi Rotimi Ganiyu Duties of the Department The Department of Curriculum Development and Evaluation is responsible for the following functions and activities:- Designing and producing new learning and teaching methodologies and instructional materials necessary to the realization of objectives as stated in the curriculum. Development and review of subject syllabus. Review of textbooks with a view to selecting suitable books for use at Nursery, Primary and Secondary levels of education including Government science and Technical Colleges. Evaluation of Certificate (foreign and local) for establishment and corporation for purposes of appointments and promotions. Organization and encouragement of subject associations in schools for the purposes of involving them in the process of curriculum development. Organization and participation in workshop/ seminars on curriculum development for primary and secondary levels of education. Conduct of the following state examinations:- Junior School Certificate Examination. Conduct of Unified Terminal Examination in the Public Secondary schools. Conduct of the End of Course Examination for Government Science and Technical Colleges. Conduct of the Screening Test into the State’s Junior Secondary School with boarding facilities. Issuance of First School Leaving Certificates to willing Primary six parents. Department of Primary School and Higher Education Director: Adegbesan Adekunle Idowu Duties of the Department:- 1. Collection / Collation of Pupils’ Enrolment in Primary Schools. 2. Collection / Collation of Statistical Data of Primary School teachers. 3. Registration of Primary One Pupils for the U.B.E programme in the State. 4. Attending to Migrant Fisherman Education Programme. 5. Attending to Nomadic Education programme. 6. Registration / Approval / Upgrading of Private Nursery and Primary Schools, Payment of Annual Renewal Fees, issuing Certificates and sign posts’ to the approved schools. 7. Raising Task Force Teams to monitor Private Schools including / closure of non- compliant ones. 8. Overseeing the Activities of Tertiary Institutions in Ogun State. Department of Secondary Education Director: Sokeye Sunday Olukunle Duties of the Department: (1). Policy formulation and implementation on matters relating to sustenance and enhancement of qualitative secondary and higher education. (2). Preparation for organization and conduct of Common Entrance Examination, admission and placement of candidates into all public secondary schools in Ogun State. (3). Conduct of intra and inter transfer of students from one school to the other in and outside Ogun State. (4). Registration of candidates for WAEC and NECO Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and monitoring of same. (5). Collaboration with sponsoring agencies, non-governmental organization etc in organizing Art, Essay, Reading, Quiz and general competitions NCE/NDC Art Essay competitions. (6). Formation of Board of Governors of Public Secondary Schools in the State. (7). Representation on the Council of Olabisi Onabanjo University and other Federal Education institutions in the State e.g Federal Government College, Odogbolu and Federal Government Girls College, Sagamu. (8). Processing of inspection and approval of new Private Secondary Schools and upgrading of existing ones in line with government policies. (9). Improvement of physical infrastructures in public secondary schools through construction of new classroom blocks and rehabilitation of existing ones. (10). Collation of students’ statistics and processing for the payment of running cost grant to schools. (11). Collaboration with other agencies in organizing major events e.g Nigerian children Youth Day, National Day Celebration. (12). Revenue generation through the Sale of Forms (Common Entrance, Transfers Application for establishment of Private Secondary Schools and upgrading inspection and approval fees among others. (13). Collaboration with other Departments, Agencies and NGOs in organizing relevant workshops and seminars for personnel in education. Department of Science and Technology Director: MR. A. A. BAMMEKE Duties of the Department The functions and duties of the Department is divided into three major divisions: These are Science Division Technical Division Technology Division Science Division Supervision of science education in all secondary schools and Government Science and Technical Colleges in the State. Organises capacity building in form of training, workshop, seminar and conferences for teachers of science education. Organises and coordinates various science competitions which include but not limited to Mobil/STAN, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), National Institute of physics (NIP), Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS), Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) “Catch them Young Mathematics and Science Olympiad” as well as other Science competitions with a view to popularizing science education. Equipping Science laboratories in all secondary schools. Liaise with other donor agencies NGO or Philanthropists whose interest and aim is to develop science education. Monitor and evaluate the teaching of science education in all secondary schools. Develop and present advance proposal on Science education for proper implementation of science education in the State. Coordinate and promote the teaching of Home Economics, and Agricultural Science in all secondary schools. Strengthening the teaching of mathematics and other science subjects in all secondary schools. Technical Division Oversee the activities and day-to-day administration of the Seven Government Science and Technical Colleges in the State. Ensuring the strict compliance of the free education policy of the government in GSTCs through the payment for NTC/NBC Examination fees to the Exam body National Business & Technical Examination Board (NABETEB). Staff auditing which includes making recommendation for the posting of teachers, recruitment of new staff when the need arises. Organizes in-house training for the staff of GSTCs Procurement of technical equipment needed for the rapid development of technical education in the State. Formulate, update and implement the State policy on the establishment and registration of private Technical education institutions which include the vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs) and Innovative Enterprise Institutions (IEIs. Carrying out initial inspection to private Polytechnics/Monotechnics seeking approval from the Government. Supervision of all the four ICT based polytechnics. Management of the Ogun State Science Equipment Production Centre as Skills Acquisition Centre Technology Division Introduction and Monitoring of Computer Education Programmes in secondary Schools and GSTCs. Serves as major organ of government saddled with the responsibility of carrying out the duties of Ministry of Science and Technology. Interacts with agencies of government under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. These include National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) , National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Computer Professional of Nigeria (CPN). Supervises the activities of Ogun School Net Joins hand with NGOs, Philanthropist, for the development of IT education. Such as MTN foundation, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) etc. Capacity building for the teachers of Computer Science. Organisation and conduct of computer science competitions e.g. Gateway IT Challenge competition, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Whiz Kids and other Science Competitions. Encourage teachers participation in various IT enabled programmes such as that of Intel, Microsoft, Multichoice etc. Department of Administrative and Supply Director Mr. Fagbohun K.P. Schedule of Duties; Administration & Supplies Promotion of eligible members of staff. Preparation of Annual Manpower Requirements for the Ministry Maintenance of up to date record of staff. Recruitment of junior staff into the Ministry. Payment of bursary to qualified indigenes in tertiary institutions Liaising with the Federal Scholarship Board for the conduct of federal scholarship programmes interview in Ogun State. Providing information towards registration of indigenes for commonwealth scholarship and Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Award. Payment of scholarship to physically – challenged indigenes. Facilitation of statutory duties with respect to Establishment and training matters. Processing of Pension and Gratuity of Retired staff. Department of Finance and Account Director: Mr. H. T. Adekunle Duties of Department He ensures compliance with the financial instruction and the accounting codes by all staff under his control and supervision. He advises the Account Staff and other Departmental Heads on all financial matters as well as technical provisions of Financial Regulations and other Treasury and Financial Circulars. Maintenance of proper records of accounts, such as Main and Subsidiary ledgers, Cash Book, DVEA Book, Personal Advances Ledger, etc. He ensures prompt rendition of all Returns e.g. Consolidated Accounts (monthly Transcripts), Bank Reconciliation Statements, Revenue and Expenditure Returns, Loans and Advances Returns, etc. as prescribed in the Financial Instructions. As an integral part of the budgeting team, he is to ensure effective budgetary control by matching/comparing budgeted figures with actual expenditure or revenue as the case may be and advising the Accounting Officer appropriately. FACT FILE - CURRENT PROGRAMME Verification of submitted data across the 20 zones 2011/2012 School Census 2012 Presidential Award for Teachers in Ogun State/Nigeria Quality Assurance Training Workshops for Inspectors And Principals of Schools; Commissioner’s visits to all the 20 Zones; Reports of appraisal of the various inspections conducted by all the 20 Zones; Collating of the Monthly Reports of activities of all the 20 Zonal Education Offices. Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientist (JETS): The inauguration of JETS organising committee is on-going in order to prepare for the 19th JETS Competition. Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC): The Southwest Zonal level of the competition will hold on Friday 6th July, 2012 at Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta. Conduct of WhizKids IT competition. Re-branding of Ogun State Science Equipment and Production Centre OGSEPC: The Ogun State Science Equipment & Production Centre OGSEPC, hitherto a way side Vocational workshop is being restructured in line with international best practices for Technical and Vocational Education and Training. Towards this end, the State is collaborating with Egba Economic Summit (EES) and Yoruba Education Trust Fund (YEFUND) to make real the Vocational Enterprise Institution programme for youths and interested individuals who will be enrolled for trade programme for a 2 year training leading to the award of the National Vocational Certificate. Rejuvenation of Government Science & Technical Colleges: The 7 GSTCs are being re- organized to ensure enhanced Teaching and Learning in classrooms and more useful assessment of work done through the introduction of 2 years Vocational Enterprise Institution (VEI) programmes in addition to the 3 years National Technical Certificate/National Business Certificate programmes. The colleges are also being re-organized to introduce short term skill acquisition programmes in diverse poverty alleviation- friendly trades. Setting up of the Ogun State Board for Technical and Vocational Education (TVE Board). The processes for the establishment of the board are in advanced stages. Request for Government’s assistance in settling Electricity bills incurred by the GSTCs: Arrangements are in advanced stages to ensure the release of funds for the payment of the Electricity bills. Registration of pupils into Primary one class. Registration and monitoring of candidates for WAEC and payment of WASSCE fees yearly from 2012-2015. Organization and conduct of Screening Test for admission and the Placement of candidates into all Public Secondary Schools in the State. Conduct of Intra and Inter-transfer of students from schools to the other in and outside of the State. Formation of Boards of Governors, School Based Management Committees (SBMC) of Public Secondary Schools in the State. Revenue generation through the Sales of Forms namely-Screening Test, Student Transfer Form, Private School Inspection and Application forms/upgrading inspection and Approval fees among others. Collaboration with sponsoring agencies, non- governmental organization e.t.c in organizing Art Essay competitions.
