Minotaur (1969) was the first record featuring a Moog as the lead instrument to chart in the US Top 40. (i.e., the first commercial hit based primarily on a Moog). Hyman, known for his earlier Jazz keyboard compositions embraced Richard Moogs creation and did several compositions which experimented with the Moog Synthesizers capabilities. Several pop tunes had already included supporting (background music) from Moog synthesizers as early as 1967 and Walter Carlos (later renamed Wendy Carlos) did a series of Baroque recordings on a Moog including Switched-On Bach and A Well-Tempered Synthesizer in 1968. Soon after Hyman Minotaur, Keith Emerson had a string of synthesizer- based hits for Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
