Puyallup Fair on Feb. 22-23 was a success. The booth was $500. Attending the Idaho Fair in the future was also discussed. Explore Oregon books cost $25. A raffle drawing at Independence Airport in September was discussed. You do not have to be present to win as long as the fundraiser pictures are submitted to the drawing. It is a fun way to get people out and flying. Books can be ordered on the OPA website link. Flying Poker run Sept. 27, 2014 was approved. It starts at Mulino Airport between 8-10am. Then Albany 8:30-10:30, Lebanon 9-11, Corvallis 9:30-11:30, & Independence 10-12 as the 5th airport. The entry fee is $10 and the winner of the poker run gets half of the entry fees collected. The other half will go to the OPA maintenance wing to help maintain state owned airports. Also there is a pancake breakfast at Independence (K7S5) from 7-11:30 that day. Questions email NealWhite@q Troutdale Airport update on the power generating plant thermal plumb in the downwind area was given by Mary. The FAA is issuing guidelines for this specific type plumb in September so any legal contested case is on hold. Fuel Tax 2015 funding for the Oregon Dept. of Aviation (ODA) might be helped by a fuel tax increase. It also allows economic development grants from the Oregon Dept. of Aviation. It will still be the lowest aviation fuel tax West of the Mississippi. Other states have excise taxes on top of fuel sales. If it does not pass, the airport, aircraft, pilot registration fees will increase to fund the Oregon Dept. of Aviation AND possibly Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) Unmanned aerial systems (UAV or UAS) testing area for national airspace testing area liaison is Mark Morrison. A meeting about where the traffic flow, communications, avoidance and other details will be discussed in future public meetings. Maintenance Wing & President Elect Paul said that he cut trees on the West end of Oakridge Airport (K5S). Free wood is available there if anyone wants firewood. Mary will give pictures to Karen from Paul for the OPA website. Treasure’s Report by Kim Muinch was handed out to everyone present. Balance in the OPA US Bank checking account is $17,393 as of April 30, 2014. Income for the last for months was $4,766. Expenses were $3,516 for the same period. The $25 for each Explore Oregon book sales are going good! Trifold brochures for $373 seems to be a good investment too. Membership Report – Membership is $25 annually. A push for online membership enrollment, renewal plus electronic newsletter distribution was discussed. An email might be sent to all members to “opt out” of printed hard copies of newsletters to save printing and postage. A volunteer mentor program for student pilots was discussed. Joe Smith proposed sending out mentor program information online, at FBOs, and flight schools. Call Joe at 503-284-6662 for more information. Mentors must be a member of OPA, attend one training session, maintain contact with student etc. A cash reserve executive fund amount of $500 was voted on and approved so that special projects could be funded with no special board approval. Two of the three including president, president-elect and treasurer must agree on any small special projects funding between meetings and document any expenditure. Annual meeting report by Neal White included Oct. 18, 2014 OPA convention schedule at LANE AVIATION ACADEMY 28715 Airport Road, Eugene Oregon 97402 near runway 34L. An excellent schedule was handed out by Neal. Four classrooms lectures (electronic flight bag, flying companion seminar, controlled airspace, weather, UAV, ADS-B) will be given simultaneous from 10-2 with lunch from 12-1. Then at 2 pm the AOPA regional director will address general aviation issues at national level. At 3pm Mary Schu (DPE) will present emergencies procedures for wings credit. At 4 pm OPA annual business meeting will occur. Lane community class credit will be given if wanted & 5 wings classes will be taught all for FREE attendance but not free lunch. Tillamook Pilots Association membership annual fee is $100 and $25 annual fee. They rent for $90/hr wet a 6 cylinder Cessna 172 - if you have separate airplane renters insurance. OPA membership is also required. Newsletter Prop Wash deadline is June 10th, 2014. OPA logo vote on the OPA website tally is unknown until Karen is contacted. Membership Directory printing costs are still being researched by Vanessa Nelson. A password protected website membership directory was discussed. Chapter Presidents or other volunteers should send chapter updates to Marcia@Noelles for the OPA website update. Experimental Kit Raffle possibility was briefly discussed to think about in the future in addition other future fundraisers. Lightspeed and Air Spruce might donate to the nonprofit foundation. ODOT has a job opening till this Monday for ODA. Sunday (not Sat) August 24rd is the next OPA board meeting in Madris. NOTE- the Madris night show is Fri. Aug. 22, 2014 so try to be on the ground around 5pm because the airport closes about 7 pm Friday night. Sat. Aug. 23rd is the big airshow. May 26, 2014 is the 21st annual Memorial Day salute 11-3 at Independence (K705) with a fly-in and lunch. July 19-20 7:30am-1 at Mulino Airport (K4S9) is the annual blueberry pancake breakfast. THANK YOU to Barry Boring and the Tillamook Schooner Restaurant for the fabulous donated lunch. The Schooner restaurant is on Netarts Bay which is 6 miles from Tillamook airport. Take 101 to Long Prairie to Fraser to 131 to visit. The North Carolina Mustard BBQ was delicious as was the chowder, roasted beets, and onions with raisons, fresh milk and cookies. The port has an airport curtsey car pending!! Additionally, the conference room with big tables, media screens and 8 windows is available for rent of $25 in the beautiful new Tillamook FBO is available for all to schedule.
