Minya Konka Trekking Tour in East Tibet Mount Gongga, also known as Minya Konka, is the highest mountain in East Tibet. It is situated in the Daxue Shan mountain range of Sichuan province, between Dadu River and Yalong River, part of the Hengduan mountainous region. The highest peak of Mount Gongga is 7590 meters, and it is the third highest peak outside of the Himalaya/Karakoram, after Tirich Mir and Kongur Tagh. Besides the main peak, there are about 45 peaks above 6000 meters around it. Schedule Day 1 May 8th , 2015 Arrive in Chengdu Arrive in Chengdu and check in the hotel yourself. You can free to make city tour, or do some shopping for the trekking. Meet with your tour leader in the evening. Night in local hotel. Day 2 May 9th , 2015 Chengdu / Bifengxia / Luding ( Driving 320 kms, about 8 hours ) Drive to Bifengxia Panda Garden in the morning, and we will vist the largest Panda Breeding research base in China, and it is amazing to enjoy so many lovely pandas in the yard. And in the afternoon we will continue driving tour to Luding, which is the gate of East Tibet. Its low altitude of 1310 meter lets us to be acclimated gradually. Night in local hotel. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 3 May 10th , 2015 Luding / Kangding ( Driving 60 kms, about 2 hours ) We will make a short tour in Luding Bridge, and then head for Kangding. The sea level of Kangding is 2560 meter which give us more time to be acclimated. It is beautiful city with strong Tibetan fasion, and we will drop a tour in Anjue monastery and Tara Monastery in the city as well as preparing for the trekking tour of next day. Night in local hotel. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 4 May 11th , 2015 Kangding / Liangchahe River ( Hiking 19 kms, about 4.5 hours ) Pack-up in the morning and then start our trekking tour today. We will hike to Liangchahe river for camping today, and enjoy the mountain, river and grassland en route. It will be a mild hiking today from sea level of 2970 meters to camping site of 3780 meters. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 5 May 12th , 2015 Liangchahe / Shangriwuqie ( Hiking 9 kms, about 4 hours ) Get up to enjoy the beautiful morning of mountain, and then we will continue hiking and stop in Shangriwuqie. And we can enjoy a few beautiful snow mountain as Tianhaizi Snow Mountain ( 6070ms ) , Mini Gongga ( 6027ms) . Of course, the sea level will rise a bit to 4350ms. We will stop in Shangriwuqie and prepare to cross the mountain pass next day. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 6 May 13th , 2015 Shangriwuqie / Moxi River ( Hiking 18 kms, about 7 hours ) Pack-up in the morning, and then start our trekking tour. Today we will climb over the mountain pass of 4830 meters, which will be chanllenge for us. And we will have a wide view of mid Gongga and more mountains at the mountain pass. Set up our camping site in Moxi river valley ( 4100 ms) . ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 7 May 14th , 2015 Moxi River / Yulongxi ( Hiking 9km, about 5 hours ) After breakfast, we will hike to Yulongxi via Jingdong Yak Farm. We have cossed the most difficult part, and today’s trekking will be down the mountain always. And camp in Yulongxi ( 3550ms ) in the afternoon. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) . Day 8 May 15th , 2015 Yulongxi / Gongga Monastery ( Hiking 6kms, about 3 hours ) Our trekking tour destination will be famous Gongga Monastery today. Gonga monastery was built in 13th century at the sea level of 3750 meters as one of the sacred site of Kayu section in Tibetan Buddism. And it is also a good place to shot the main peak of Minya Konka. And we can stay in the guesthouse of the monastery today. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 9 May 16th , 2015 Gongga Monastery / Xinduqiao ( Hiking 26kms, about 7 hours ) Bid farewell to Gongga monastery in the morning, we will hike down the mountain, and then arrive in Zimei village, and then we will climb over the Zimei mountain pass of 4550 , where is also a good site to enjoy Gongga peaks. And meet with our car and the trekking tour is completed. And we will head for beautiful Xinduqiao village and relax in the hotel. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 10 May 17th , 2015 Xinduqiao / Xiangcheng Driving ( 420 kms, about 7 hours ) Today we will enter the deep land of picturesque Tibetan plateau. It is an overland tour in car. just enjoy the endless waving mountain and grassland en route. And we will also visit the huge monastery of Litang. And arrive in Xiangcheng in the late afternoon. Night in local hotel. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 11 May 18th , 2015 Xiangcheng / Shangrila Driving ( 220 kms, about 6 hours ) Our tour destination is Shangrila of Yunnan province, and it is a long driving tour today. But it is not boring, we will enjoy a lot of mountain en route, also the Tibetan village of Xiangcheng is well known. Arrive in beautiful Shangrila in the late afternoon. Night in local hotel. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 12 May 19th , 2015 Shangrila / Lijiang Driving ( 182 kms, about 3 hours ) Songtanlin Monastery has the reputation of Mini Potala, and our hiking tour will not miss it naturally. And then we will head for Tiger Leaping Gorge, where we will enjoy the wonder of deep Yangtze valley. And then we will continue to Lijiang old town. Arrive in Lijiangin the late afternoon, and we will have a farewell dinner in the restaurant of old town. Night in local hotel. ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner ) Day 13 May 20th , 2015 Lijiang Departure After breakfast in the morning, the tour is end.
