Miracles at 11 River! Finding Poops the red eared slider a forever home was truly a miracle that overjoyed all of the staff and volunteers here at the Toronto Humane Society. Poops was with us for close to three years! While we pride ourselves in the care we provide to each and every animal that passes through our doors, that is far too much time to be in the shelter. Thankfully Heather came to the rescue and brought Poops home, where he will happily splish and splash for years to come. And not alone mind you - Heather had previously adopted another THS turtle named Ashley! The two make a fantastic pair in their large and dedicated tank, as you can see in the pics below. Unfortunately turtles are the longest staying residents here at the Toronto Humane Society. While ongoing care is relatively inexpensive, the initial purchase of appropriate equipment and housing can be costly. Additionally these turtles can live for decades so an adopter must be very dedicated to keeping these guys for their entire lifespan. It is certainly worth it though. Watching happy turtles get up to aquatic antics is both hilarious and soothing. If you are interested in adopting one of our 6 remaining red eared sliders please contact specialspecies@torontohumanesociety A heartfelt thank-you goes to Heather for saving both of these wee turtles!
