Mirchi Music Awards on a Grand Scale The Mirchi Music Awards South India 2012 was held at Chennai Trade Centre in Chennai recently. Popular music director AR Rahman has bagged the Global Music Icon Award. Five awards have gone for Best Album of the Year (Jury Choice), Best Album of the Year (listener’s choice), Best Song of the Year (Jury Choice), Best Song of the Year (Listener’s Choice), Best Music Director (Devisri Prasad) awards were bagged by the film ‘Gabbar Singh’ for which Devisri Prasad scored music. Moreover, Best Playback Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was presented with ‘Sangeeta Samrat’ award. Jamuna Rani was awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award. SP Balu and Chitra received awards for Best Singer (Male) Best Singer (Female) for their songs in ‘Shirdi Sai’ and ‘Devasthanam’. Sureshbabu, Nani, Ramana Gogula, Sunitha, Rana and many other south India film personalities were also present.
