Miriam Smith appears to be as confused as the rest of us as to why she resigned as Mayor of City of Tea Tree Gully in January, judging by the seemingly conflicting reasons given. Then taking a look at her Web Site, we could be excused for thinking we had imagined it all. She had not resigned at all and was still the sitting Mayor. __________________________________ Leader Messenger 22nd January 2014 This decision had not been made lightly, Ms Smith said. I cannot stress enough the privilege Ive been given to serve the community ... it has been an honour and I thank them for the opportunity. I entered local government to achieve outcomes for the community these have been achieved and delivered. But I have held a quiet personal conviction that a mayor should run for two terms and if you cant achieve what you want in that time than it most likely wont happen. Tea Tree Gully Council will be without an official mayor until the Local Government elections in November. _______________________________ Miriam Smith’s current Website “In late 2006 I was elected by the People of the City of Tea Tree Gully and have remained so until 2014. In this past term 2010-2014 I promised to deliver and have done just that without exception. Again I make the same commitment for the term ahead.” (There does not appear to be any reference to Miriam Smith currently not being Mayor or that she resigned the position. ) __________________________________ Sunday Mail 19th October 2014 Ms Smith too is looking for a fresh start at Tea Tree Gully. She was a sitting two-term mayor until January, when she stepped down because of internal council problems. She says at the time it was right to leave the chamber and take a break, but she is keen to get back to work.
