Mirwaiz South Kashmir suffers ‘stroke’ in police custody admin~shujah. Mirwaiz South Kashmir Qazi Ahmad Yasir, who is under police detention since last 15 days, was Friday shifted to a hospital in Srinagar after he reportedly suffered minor heart attack. Sources said Mirwaiz South Kashmir, who has been detained in Police Station Saddar, complained of chestpain this morning. “He was immediately shifted to District Hospital Anantnag”. They said the doctors referred him to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar for specialized treatment. “He (Qazi Yasir) might have suffered a minor heart attack. He was shifted to Srinagar hospital as a precautionary measure,” a doctor at District Hospital Anantnag said. However, there has been no confirmation from the police. The family members of Mirwaiz alleged that police did not let them meet him while he was being ferried to Srinagar. Meanwhile, more than a dozen clerics from religious wing of Ummat-e-Islami (UeI)courted arrest as a mark ofprotest against what they termed illegal detention of Qazi Yasir. They had gathered inside the premises of Jamia Masjid Anantnag and tried to take out a protest march towards Lal Chowk are. However, their protest march was foiled by police and the protestors were confined to the mosque premises. Terming Mirwaiz’s detention illegal and unlawful, head of religious wing of UeI Maulana Sarjan Ahmad Barkati demanded immediatereleas e of Qazi Yasir. He accused the governmentof handing over administrative matters to police. Meanwhile, a as the news about Yasir’s ill health spread in the town, his supporters came out on roads at Lal Chowk and staged anti- police demonstrations. The protesters, who were demanding immediate release of Yasir, clashed with police and CRPF men, who resorted to baton charge and lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse them. Ab.
