Mirwaiz welcomes Modi’s invitation to Sharief: Chairman Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the newly elected Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to Pakistan Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif for his swearing-in ceremony. Mirwaiz hoped that the new Indian government would start a sustained dialogue process with Pakistan and Kashmir leadership.Mirwaiz pinned hopes on Modi to start new process of friendship with the neighbouring Pakistan. Mirwaiz, who was put under house arrest following his Eidgah March call to commemorate the death anniversary of his father Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq who was gunned down on this day in 1990, said Modi’s invitation to Sharief is a welcome gesture and this should continue in the future as well. The cordial relations between Indo-Pak are in the interest of Kashmir issue. Late Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq was also in favor of such talks,” Mirwaiz said, adding: “This is a welcome gesture by Modi, but it should not end there instead a sustained dialogue process should be started.” He said that his party, Awami Action Committee, will hold a rally at Municipal Park here onJune 20 and also his group has decided to reopen the cases like “Hawal massacre” and the killings of Moulvi Farooq and Abdul Gani lone, another Hurriyat leader who was assassinated on the May 21 in 2002. Condemning the arrest of Doctor’s Association president and few civil society members, Mirwaiz said that Omar Abdullah has become a dictator and he has used all the oppressive tactics to suppress the voices of pro-freedom people.
