Mislabeling and needlessly killing shelter animals does not lead - TopicsExpress

Mislabeling and needlessly killing shelter animals does not lead to No Kill success nor does it justify this false claim Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) wants our community to believe: “No healthy dog or cat has been euthanized since September 30, 2005.” ~ Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project in Maricopa County, AZ Year Nine Annual Report December 15, 2011 Many shelters across the nation have the animals evaluated to determine each animals disposition. Once evaluated, each shelter animal is labeled per the outcome of the evaluation. This could be a helpful tool when evaluations are done by several trained professionals, without bias to any breed, size, color, or species, and keeping in mind the behavior of animals can be very different due to being in a shelter environment. Due to the smoke-and-mirrors at MCACC, many animals are mislabeled daily, which can lead to a needless death sentence. For example, an S5 label means the animal is viciously human aggressive. Pictured is Eloise Prevost who goes to bat for those on MCACC’s kill list and labeled S5’s. As she stated “The S5 Tem -Hum dog. Yes, I did get my kisses ! ! ! …He is labeled S5, but a person who is not the owner is holding the leash and not being attacked, so the label is unjust.” Thank you to Eloise and everyone who takes a stand and fights for shelter animals! When shelter leadership is not dedicated and committed to making lifesaving priority number one for each and every life, shelter animals needlessly pay for it with their lives. MCACC shelter director refuses to do what is morally, ethically, and humanely right. Due to this failure, the shelter animals of MCACC needlessly leave the back doors in body bags. There are hundreds of No Kill communities across the nation who are saving at an upwards of 95% of their impounded animals. Something can’t be both impossible and already happening. Shelter reform now at MCACC!
