Miss the queen mother library - i spent a lot of time in the history section reading though i didnt read history as a subject - where else would i get a broad spectrum on books on my hero marcus mosiah garvey - the phd thesis by an american brother called appropriately black moses andthe philosopy and the philosophy and Opinions of marcus garvey by amy jaques garvey were also there and stuff on the maroons who returned to sierra leone( wikepedia online is also great on the sierra leonian chapter of the maroon story)- the usual suspects i had in economics like marx - all volumes of das kapital with the salient points being covered by my lecturer in comparative economics - some complicated maths as well as the theoretical stuff - for me the killer was always religion is the opiate of the masses and the comparison between the early church and communism in its purest form- i couldnt see that so that form of political thought is alien to me - even modern russia though gorbachov has adopted broadly a mixed free market economy and marx was an atheist though jewish by birth. Keynes, milton friedman were more my style - lost economic faith in keynes over time and friedman treatise simply called i think money started it but fell asleep by chapter 2(lol) just went by the text book summaries .mrs thatcher was a fan of thatcher when i was doing a levels :3 million unemployed at the time so that was enough for me to favour govt intervention in the form of spending rather than just relying on controlling the money supply as a tool to control inflation and the policies of the present day govt such as austerity measures- closing hospitals, etc is ok if you can afford private health care but most of these eton types need to get a reality check - to be succinct :labour is the lesser of two evils - they will spend rather than watch elderly folk lie on trolleys for hours without food just because the hospital budget means less nurses can be employed - i wont go as far as bring back british rail but definitely the nhs has to remain the main health care provider - did my msc on health management- medicaid and medicare in the usa are frightening concepts if they were ever introduced here - big ups to my scots prof dr marnoch - a very erudite man and his text book was an eye opener to me at the time
