Mission Encourage students in becoming environment friendly individuals and contribute in the preservation of mother Earth through relevant programs. Vision The roster of saving Mother Earth for a greener tomorrow. Green is the color of life. It symbolizes nature, health, growth, harmony and freshness. It is the most restful color for the human eye. It is the hue of youth. And every year, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) is painting the town green — a continuing strong interest in protecting and preserving the planet’s resources. It is manifestation that students in schools have always been mobilized and maintains a renewed youth participation and action to protect, preserve, conserve and rehabilitate our environment. Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 72, series of 2003, establishes YES-O as the only co-curricular environmental club or organization in schools. It consolidates all other environmental and/or ecology clubs or organizations in schools with main and primary programs or projects for the environment. This effort believes that starting them young in the ways of environmentalism help secure a clean and healthy environment for generations to come. YES-O inspires and trains diverse youth to impact environmental issues through community action projects and campaigns; skills training in leadership, environmental education, civic engagement, and community organizing; and knowledge that sustain our communities and future. The YES-O has the following objectives: • • Be aware and create awareness in others of the state of the Philippine environment and ecology, including prevailing issues and concerns relative thereto; • • Establish specific and doable programs, projects and activities to address issues and concerns on the environment and ecology; • • Network with other government and non-government organizations, including Youth for Environment in Schools (YES) Organization in other schools within the division and region, with regard to support and assistance to programs, projects and activities of the organization; • • Encourage community participation and initiative in environmental and ecological movements and actions; and • • Develop among members and the community proper environmental values, skills and attitudes YES-O members realize that deterioration of the natural environment is one of the principal concerns of young people worldwide as it has direct implications for their well-being both now and in the future. Abiding with the mandates of organization, sustainable development has become a key element in the programs and activities of YES-O throughout the year. While every segment of society is responsible for maintaining the environmental integrity of the community, these young people have a special interest in maintaining a healthy environment because they will be the ones to inherit it. The club operates on the values of youth empowerment, sustainability, diversity, justice and healthy environment. However, saving the environment is a team effort. Everyone must participate and work together in order for it to be successful. Everyone has the green light to proceed with a task and a green thumb for utmost care of nature. For after all, green is life. The YES-o of ICEHS-sta. filomena has different approaches for the implementation to help the environment through the youth. It has the following purposes for which such association is incorporated are: 1. Be aware and create awareness in others of the state of the Philippine environment and ecology, including prevailing issues and concerns relative thereto; o There are devastating facts that prevails the present situation of our environment. It is our responsibility to sustain the cleanliness and beauty of the environment thus, helping and developing of the environment. 2. Establish specific and doable programs; projects and activities to address issues and concerns on the environment and ecology; o In helping to conserve the environment there should be realistic and doable programs to implement that are attainable to the ability and capacity of the youth. 3. Network with other government and non government organizations, in other schools or within the division and region, with regard to support and assistance the programs, projects and activities of the organizations; o In order to implement programs for the development of the environment, there should be joining hands from different sectors and other organizations to have all the success to be achieved. 4. Encourage community participation and initiative in environmental and ecological movements and actions; o Necessarily, the cooperation of the people specially the participation of th youth are needed with the initiative needed for the environmental and ecological movements and actions. 5. Develop among members and the community proper environmental values, skills and attitudes; o The programs for environmental and ecological movements and actions do not only focus on the environment itself but also it inculcates the social interaction for youth, youth and between every individual for the activities. YES-O Youth for Environmental and School Organization (YES-O) is a students’ organization with voluntary membership, that is held every year in every school here in the Philippines with the accordance to the corporation code of the Philippines (Batas Pambansa Blg. 68). This is a students’ organization program in which the environment is of a major concern to wake the awareness and initiative of the people to develop and help the threat further damage of the environment. It has been a program to promote the awareness of the condition of the environment. Its purpose does not only focus at the environment itself but also as said, to inculcate the sense of awareness and initiative of improving the current situation of the environment. In this program the youth is ushered to their own individual ways of cleaning and improving their surroundings. The youth under this program has been given basic methods and of enjoying activities to have a strong unity within and without the youth itself thus, promotes empowerment towards every individual. With the counterpart of the Science Club of the school itself the YES-O Sta. Filomena has been effective. A voluntary membership of students molds YES-O of a school. Cleaning the area inside and outside the campus is one of the activities that the YES-O has made a role. The threat of Global Warming (an increase in the average temperature of the atmosphere, oceans, and landmasses of Earth) and pollution is overwhelming and if not given attention it would lead to the destruction of the environment totally that resides health-risk to the people. This students’ organization enhances the social interaction of every individual particularly towards the students. The students are not only prompted and developed with the different activities and cleaning actions but also the students’ organization helps promote or inculcates the essence of unity on every individual under the program of the said organization.
