Mission Notes I am proud to be a part of such a vital organization that provides essential support to our service members and their families. The special role that the Red Cross plays is perhaps best exemplified through our emergency communications services, which is described in the second story in this newsletter. This service has evolved to assist with suicide prevention and other emergencies. Recently our emergency communications center received a call from a mother who had gotten an email from her son, who was deployed in Afghanistan. Mother’s intuition told her that something was wrong, and perhaps her son was saying goodbye. The Red Cross was able to get this information to the commanding officer immediately, and this action saved that service member’s life. Your encouragement and support of the Red Cross enables us to help millions of families each year! Thank you for all you do to support the Red Cross.
