Mission Trip 2014! Baltimore, Maryland! This past week has made a huge impact in my life! We did so many different little things for different people, and to us it didnt see like we were doing much, but to the people it made them so happy. For instance a group of us went and pulled weeds that were around these three trees & along aside of a mans house. He was so happy that we were doing this for him and the community that he came over and gave us each a can of soda and thanked us. Another instance is when we were redoing the boys room and we told him that we replaced the old toilet seat with a new one. He was so happy, over a toilet seat! Sometimes we complain about how we dont have our favorite ice cream or chips in our home, but what about the kids who have barely any food or nothing at all? Some of the kids had no food at all or some of the kids had food but didnt have electricity to make the food. We did two room makeovers. One girls and one boys. Three girls were staying in the girls room. Before we redid their room they were all sleeping on a piece of cardboard box on the floor. There was barely anything in their house. Their house smelled so bad. And their was cockroaches every where! When Brian, Mark, and Ms. Colleen first went to the girls house they were sitting on the steps. Their parents didnt even care that the girls let them into their house. One thing that I admire the most about these girls is even though they had just a few things, they had big smiles on their faces and were proud of what they had! The girls reaction when their room was done was priceless! They cried tears of joy! The boys house was the opposite. His house was clean and had a few more things than the girls house. At first we didnt think the boy was excited to see his new room but boy were we wrong! He was super happy! He ran over to Ms. Colleen and gave her a hug & thanked us! It was so good to see the smiles on the girls & boys face when they saw their finished rooms! Everyday from 2-4 we ran three different camps. Prince Camp, Princess Camp, & Sports Camp! I helped out in Prince Camp. Everyday we would do a lesson, game, and craft. And we would also serve a snack. It was good to see the same kids come back day after day! And it was good to see how much they matured since the first day! Another thing we did is go to a homeless park! We handed out bags full of toiletries & food to the homeless people. Some of their stories just broke my heart. Some people have been living at the park for years, others for a few months. It was sad because there was this one guy who was only there for 5 days. So when we first got to Baltimore he was living in a house with a job, but by the end of the week he became homeless. Its very heartbreaking. There was a lady who was/still is trying to find a program so she can get her life & her child back. This week in Baltimore taught me a lot. It taught me to have hope. That no matter how tough things get & no matter what youre going through God will always be by your side! It also taught me that sometimes people dont want you to fix their life all they want you to do is listen to their story. The last thing this week taught me is sometimes you need to stop whatever youre doing and breathe, because everything is going to be okay. This week was a blast! Im so happy that I met so new friends & I hope we stay in touch! Thanks for everyone who made my first mission trip amazing! I love you all!
