Missouri GOP chair, Ed Martin, is supporting Amendment 1. No - TopicsExpress

Missouri GOP chair, Ed Martin, is supporting Amendment 1. No surprise - sadly, every conservative legislator with whom Im familiar is behind this possibleTrojan Horse. How would you like to have Danny Strahan, Ron Houseman, and Brandon Williams deciding whether your little farming operation was legitimate or not? I hope liberty lovers will flood Mr. Martins inbox. ***************************************************** Mr. Martin, While I appreciate your willingness to fight the RNC over that nasty business in Mississippi, I cant stand with you on this one. Just the fact that Monsanto supports Amendment 1 is enough to cause consternation, given that companys historical indifference to small farms and humanity in general. It seems to me that animal rights nonsense should be addressed by the state legislature. The Missouri Consitution is already too unwieldy, and Im told by many it already makes provision for farming rights, anyway. Also, theres concern that this amendment may have the effect, intended or otherwise, of empowering unscrupulous local officials to impose capricious restrictions on farms of which they dont approve. This concern is well expressed by the Constitution Party: By far the largest problem in this proposed amendment is the words, subject to duly authorized powers, if any, conferred by article VI of the Constitution of Missouri. Article VI of the Missouri Constitution refers to local governments, the cities and counties in this state. So passage of this amendment would guarantee the right to farm and ranch, SUBJECT TO THE WHIMS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. Thank you sir for your emails - they are appreciated, even though I dont concur with you views on this one. Sincerely, Steve Maxwell 960 Sanders Rd Kissee Mills MO 65680 (417) 546-7966
