Missouri Moms…IF YOU CHOOSE TO REFUSE THE TESTS there is a couple of important things to remember. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. NEVER MEET ANY ADMINISTRATOR ALONE. Witnesses are important. ( So are recording devices.) The word REFUSE has a much heftier legal implication than the term OPT OUT. From now on REFUSE the tests. This advise was given to us by attorneys. Demand that your refusal letter be placed in your childs file. Advice from a friend to our cause that is VERY IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW: Hand-deliver a letter to the school principal stating that you do not give permission for your children to participate in standardized testing. When (not if) they say it is not optional and parents have no right to withhold children from standardized testing, demand that they identify any written policy, regulation, or statute that they think establishes their right or obligation to require students to take those tests. Also, demand to be told - in writing - what the penalties will be if she keeps her children at home on the test dates. Armed with knowledge of the policy and/or laws they are relying on and a statement that she will be subject to a certain penalty if she declines to permit her children to be tested, you will know EXACTLY what you are dealing with. Then send that information to us, and we will review it with the correct authorities. Put on your fighting clothes, and start the battle. It wont be easy. THEY WILL BULLY YOU. That is why it is so important to document, document, document. Do everything you can by email. Fight the good fight for your kids. THOUSANDS of parents all over the state are doing the same thing!
