Missy went to heaven on Saturday, September 27th, 2014. It’s a place we talked about a lot and a place that we knew one of us would get there before the other. Her passing has been incredibly difficult to endure. Missy was a working girl and had an incredibly important career at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. She kept blood pressure down, initiated smiles and conversation from staff and guests. Her work colleagues were respectful and professional and always welcomed her. On Fridays, she got to puppysit her buddy, Milo who was always just a wee bit intimidated by her matriarchal demeanour. And they would share cheese. With intense regularity, she saw to it that she was chauffeured home at noon every day to oversee nap time with her special Grandma, Bailey and Princess Dunsdon. One of her favourite places in all the world was the Critteraid Charity Thrift Shoppe. There, she was treated like royalty by volunteers and customers alike. She was extra special there and her fellow volunteers always smiled and watched over her, a favour she will now exchange by watching over them. Missy’s very favourite spot though, was Critteraid Farm. She got to eat poopsicles when I wasn’t looking, she got to chase balls, sneak a dip in the alpaca’s pool, slumber on the grass, snooze in the truck and sometimes just oversee the lower pasture animals. The air is good there and her tail was always busy winding her up for the rest of the day! We just lost our beloved Princess Dunsdon the Monday previous, a black and white cat that slept with Missy since 2006. I called them the “twins”, except that Missy’s ears looked like the flying nun and Princess’s ears, as she came up her special steps to the bed, looked like Bat Woman. Missy was right beside Princess Dunsdon when she passed and it is comforting to know that they can resume their sentry duties at all sleeping places. Thank-you to Dr. Kaplans and all the staff and friends at TriLake Animal Hospital in Winfield. How wonderful that we have the technology that can give us definite answers. The catscan showed a big ugly tumour on her brain and a large mass in her abdomen. Thank-you for explaining things in detail and giving us the much needed 4 extra days. We had a blast this week ! Missy even did her “the bacon kind?” impersonation a few times. We managed to visit friends and places and catch up on some specialness. Thank-you to Kevin and staff at Until We Meet Again Pet Crematorium in North Vancouver for providing us with such a dignified and compassionate experience. I don’t doubt for a minute that Missy was met by many friends who went before her – wherever “heaven” is. We all want the ones we love dearly to have a peaceful passing and Missy did. So many of you reading this touched her life in some special way and I think perhaps she reciprocated that. She was my “shotgun” partner who actually liked sharing life with a curmudgeon. Please allow me the solitude I require to cope and understand that this is not something I can speak of yet. Perhaps in 2034! Every day was our favourite day ! Let Missy and I wish you all that very same experience !
