Mistake list (episode 1) Written By: #Prince Wako Pitori (Prince Mazibuko) Mfundo,a quiet and chilled 20 year old I.T student from Mabopane had just registered for his second year at a private institute in Pretoria when he received the saddest news ever.He received a call from the George Mukhari hospital telling him that his one and only mother had just past away.Mfundos mother had been lying sick in her hospital bed for a very long time so the news didnt really hit him by suprise since he had already prepared himself for the worst, judging by his mothers situation. When Mfundo received these sad news,he was at the College reception just about to sign his Res papers so after the call everyone at the reception was when Mfundo placed the unsigned papers on the table and quietly walked out without saying anything to anyone.Mfundo caught a taxi and went straight to the hospital just to be sure if his mom was really gone so on his arrival, his heart skipped a few beats when he saw his moms pale and cold body as they brought the body out.Mfundo told the doctors that he would make all the arrangements for his mothers body to be moved to the mortuary of the funeral company that his mother payed monthly then he caught another taxi and went straight home. When Mfundo got home,he found his drunk father lying flat on the ground just before the door so he picked him up and carried him to the bedroom.Mfundo was a hundred percent sure that his father didnt know anything yet because he was never sober but besides that, his dad didnt even have a phone.Mfundo knew very well that he was the only person who at that point in time knew about his mothers death because he was the only one who used to visit her on a daily basis and the hospital had his contacts only.He walked down to the nearest shop and used the last R200 in his wallet to buy some airtime so he could inform the rest of the family and everyone else about his mothers death. He then sat at the dining room and called one person after the other breaking out the painful news until he ran out of airtime but it didnt really matter anymore because he knew that the people that he managed to inform would spread the world. After some time, his father woke up and went to the kitchen to get some water but as he passed by he noticed that Mfundos eyes were red and swollen so he sat down next to him and asked him what was wrong.Papa,Mfundo said as he stared into mid air and wiped his cheeks.Yes boy.Talk to me,his father replied.Mom passed away earlier today.Shes gone dad,Mfundo whispered as some more tears flowed down his cheeks.Mfundos dad froze then the glass of water slipped out of his hands and broke into pieces as the water splashed in all different directions.Mfundos father took a few steps back then he went down on his knews and began to cry.Mfundo sat dead still and stared into mid air as a million drops of tears dripped down before his feet.As Mfundos father tilted his head up and tried to keep his tears back like a man,Mfundo stood up and unplugged the Tv then he carried it to his room where he placed it next to his bed and covered it with a towel then he went back to fetch the dvd and speakers.Dad.Please help me.We have to prepare the place before everyone gets here, said Mfundo with his weak voice.Mfundo and his dad moved the couches out of the dining room then each of them brought a matress from their bedrooms and placed them next to each other on the dining room floor. After some time they heard some voices singing outside and when they peeped out, they saw Mfundos aunts and a few other relatives. This is when everyone else including the neighbours noticed what was really happening and even though they werent sure about everything they just assumed since everyone knew that Mfundos mother had been sick and away for a very long time. Most of the neighbours and family friends changed into the right clothes and joined the relatives just to pay their respects.A few hours later, most of the uncles and other men of the family also arrived so Mfundos grandmother and closest aunt to their place on the matress. As young as Mfundo was,he took all the responsibilty and placed it on his shoulders by handling all the arrangements with only a little bit of help from some of the family members. On the few following days,Mfundos house was busy and packed with all the different people from all the different of the family until the day before the funeral arrived. As we all know, according to most cultures, the family and friends gather up the night before the funeral and take turns to take one last look at the body.At around 7,the day before the funeral the family and friends gathered at the gate and sang their emotional funeral hymns as the hearse slowly reversed into the yard then they stopped as soon as the undertakers opened the door. The men slowly pulled the coffin out of the hearse and carried it into the tent as every one else followed silently. They all stood silently as Moruti said a long prayer then they sang one last hymn. They then lined up and got ready to see the body and at the front of the line, stood the weak and emotional Mfundo...Mfundo slowly opened the casket then all of a sudden his eyes popped out as he quickly stepped back and shouted WHOS THIS MAN?????.........
