Misty from Dallas, TX shares her birth story! I did it!!! I got my VBAC on 12/16 Birth Story: It was a Monday night. I was 37 weeks 1 day and nothing was out of the ordinary. I put my 4yr old to sleep in the bed and I laid down to watch TV. At this point, I had no unusual symptoms or anything that would lead me to believe labor would soon come. It was just after midnight (tuesday morning, 37w2d) and I felt like what I thought may have been discharge emerging...and WOOSH...my water burst as I lay in bed. I jumped up and ran to the restroom. After a moment, I went to the other room where my husband was and informed him that my water had broken. This was my first experience with this situation. He was like well, what do we do now. I told him to sit tight while I called my doula. At 12:09am I phoned my doula to see what I needed to do. I told her that my water had broke. At this point I was shaking I was so nervous. She told me to get a shower, get something to eat and to try to rest until contractions started. I began to finish packing my bag, since it was still 3 weeks until my EDD, I wasnt fully packed. By the time I got my bag packed and a bag packed for my 4yr old to go to a sitter, I began cramping. I then had a shower which was nice. By this point the contractions had started. I laid in bed and was messaging a friend as contractions began to intensify. I began timing them and they were growing in intensity, duration and becoming closer together. At around 3:45 I called my doula and said that she should head over (she was 35min away) I also called for the sitter to come get my son. By the time my doula nursed her child and drove to me, picked me up and drove me the 7min to the hospital, it was 5am when we checked into the E.R. The E.R. nurse checked me and I was 3cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was then wheeled up to L&D. The next 4 hours were very intense. I labored completely unmedicated. I used the yoga ball, partially deflated in the bed and I labored on all fours. The back pain was so intense I would almost stand up on my knees as my doula an husband applied counter pressure. I remember a few times thinking I needed at least some IV meds to help take the edge off. But my doula just said lets just get through the next contraction...and we continued this. Somewhere between 9:00am and 915am I began to feel a bit pushy. Like my body was taking over and I couldnt control it. So the nurse asked if I would like a check. She had to wait through 2 back to back contractions to be able to check me. She then told me that she could not feel a cervix at all and I could push if I wanted. She then went to summon the doctor into the room. In the mean time I had 2 good contractions while on fours where I allowed my body to push as felt natural. When the doctor came in they told me I couldnt deliver on all fours. I told them I couldnt turn over (as baby was in the birth canal). My doula asked if we could deliver on my side if not on fours as I had specifically said I did NOT want to push on my back. So I maneuvered to my right side and had my left leg up. I had a mirror and after one push could see the head crowning. I was about to give birth...naturally...vaginally...unmedicated!!! So after another push, the doctor stepped in the way of the mirror and blocked my view...but he announced that the head was delivered. One more push and the shoulders followed quickly by the rest of the baby were delivered. I had done it!!! Then the doctor announced the gender...as we had not known in advance. I had a boy. He was born on 12/16 at 9:29am. We named him Marcos Aurelio and he was 7lbs 3oz and 20.25in long.
