Mitakuye Oyasin (All Are Related). The Oglala Lakota use this phrase often and reverently. We are all of the same part. I am using the term now for all of you that know me and read anything I post. Finally, I will no longer refer to myself as a retired school superintendent. I have just received a contract for my third book, Descendants of Wounded Knee: The Ultimate Sacrifice on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The Pine Ridge is home to the Oglala and the setting for the book following the 1999 Unsolved murders of two men. The book speaks of the failure of 150 years of forced assimilation, and the invincibility of the thousands of years old Lakota culture. My writing partner, Sandy Sauser, now deceased, and I went on the trail of the killers and used the search to describe life on the rez. An excerpt can be found on alanhafer, a blog which I am about to make a web site. I am just really please and thank everyone--Mitakuye Oyasin!
