Mitch McConnell Leading In New Poll, Despite Racist Remarks Posted about 2 months ago | 2 comments McConnell,Mitch-012309-18422-jf 0024Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell now has a slight 4-point lead in a new CNN poll over Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes, despite his recent remarks in the media which some have construed as being racially insensitive. But McConnell’s lead remains within the margin of error in the poll, and may change over time as more Kentuckians learn about his questionable statements. McConnell’s purportedly racist statements came on Tuesday, during an interview with a local morning radio program in Lexington, Kentucky. The host asked McConnell whether or not he felt there was any merit to the notions of some Democrats that the Citizens United ruling was enabling the rich to “buy elections for Republicans,” to which McConnell strongly disagreed… and then offended. “I don’t see it like that. People can support Democrats just as easily as they can support Republicans. It’s all up to who the rich feel like supporting,” McConnell replied. “But you have to ask yourself, who would a wealthy person rather throw their support behind? A republican, who has their best interests at heart, with fewer nanny-state regulations and taxes that empower them? Or a Democrat, who wants to give handouts to the poor while stripping job creators of the tools they need to earn a profit? Obviously they’re going with the first option. That’s not our fault, or the Supreme Court’s, or that of the Citizens United ruling. Democrats bring that down on themselves.” That’s when McConnell made his controversial statement. “I don’t see that ruling as empowering the wealthy. They empowered themselves. That’s where wealth comes from… self-empowerment. If the poor want to sit around all day talking on their government-bought Obama phones, eating fried chicken the government pays for and waiting for Obama to give them everything for free, that’s not empowerment. That’s not how people become wealthy. That’s not the American way. Waking up at noon and listening to rap music all day doesn’t constitute hard work.” The NAACP released a statement to the press a few hours later, saying “Senator McConnell’s thinly-veiled jabs at the black community have not gone unnoticed. The stereotypes he chose to use will cost him dearly in this election, and hopefully his loss in November will send a clear message to those who think like he does; that the color of a person’s skin can not and should not be used to determine that person’s value in our society or to question their contributions to it.” Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, however, didn’t see anything wrong with McConnell’s statements. “How is any of what he said racist? I’m white, and I love fried chicken. Take a good look at me, I think that’s obvious. I’m not black, last time I checked. And white people can listen to rap music, and they can be rap singers, too. The Beastie Boys, Eminem, That `Mackerel’ guy, or whatever he’s called, they’re all white. But that’s the new racism at work. Racism against whites. And I think it’s just as bad as anything minorities ever had to face, but what do I know?” - See more at: nationalreport.net/mitch-mcconnell-leading-new-poll-despite-racist-remarks/#sthash.4FDS9Mrq.dpuf
