Mitzvah Meals growing this year to over 250 meals to Charleston Area Senior Citizens. In 2005 Social Action program at KKBE started serving 30 meals to Charleston Seniors that are literally shut in and alone for the holidays. These are people that regularly receive MEALS ON WHEELS every other day of the year. Meals on Wheels does not deliver on holidays. So we do!! Last year we were able to deliver to over 200 seniors. People that for the most part do not hear someone wish them “Happy Holiday”. In many cases our drivers/Mitzvah messengers are the only person they see on a day when most of the rest of us go home to family and feast. Last year was a great success thanks to all our community partners. Friends and friends of friends came out to help and local area businesses donated last year. Some of them were Hyman’s Seafood, Earth Fare and Sticky Fingers, Trader Joe’s, and T-Bonz. Low Country Kia sent us 20 drivers and their families to deliver. This year we already have a commitment from chef Paul at Charleston Place to join our efforts. So many times we’ve had volunteers walk in off the street when they hear about what we are doing. Mitzvah Meals are Rolling out again! This program has grown each year and we hope to one day be able to cover the entire list of 400 names of Charleston Area Seniors that need a meal on Thanksgiving. . We are inviting anyone that would like to help in this rewarding Mitzvah to join us on Thursday morning, Thanksgiving day. There are so many opportunities to help. We need: Drivers. Many people have made this a Tikun Olam project for the family. As of right now we need cooks for 15 to 20 turkey’s (not Kosher) to be delivered (carved) to KKBE by 8:30am November 28. 14 to 18 kitchen staff to plate, box and prepare boxes for delivery Other things you could do to help is donate prepared side dishes: potatoes, stuffing, dessert, vegetables, rolls. Keeping in mind the food should be somewhat soft to chew. Cash donations will help offset the cost of clamshell containers and side dishes that we have to buy. If you would like to join us please contact Cynthia Ava for any information. cynava@gmail (Mitzvah Meals in the subject line.) Or call her at 843-412-8265. Please patronize our donors.
