Mixed emotions on how to teach my boys a lesson. My boys are all visual learners. Theyve been so tough on eachother lately especially with aggressive yelling battles that have turned into bitterness and hate. My heart kept getting heavier and heavier...i stayed up most of the night, last night thinking....and thought this would work. Heres their visual aid... 3 pieces of scrap wood from Ace hardware, a hammer, nails...and chalk paint for later. Heres what I told them: Scrap wood represents the person ur mad at. The hammer represents you The nail represents the hurtful words you speak and think. Taking the hammer and beating the nail into the wood, I asked the boys to say the words with every hit. Over and over I heard familiar words and phrases I couldnt stand hearing anymore. Then we stopped. At this point the back side of the hammer represents the word sorry. I asked them to apologize and pull the nails out. They struggled with it physically as I told them that saying sorry isnt always easy. They noticed the nail holes left behind, I reminded them of the scars; The wounds that would be there, even after a heartfelt sorry is said. Christian said that the beautiful natural lines in the wood were now scared and beat up. We had a long talk, sprayed chalk paint on the boards, and as they sat out in the sun to dry we took our skate and long boards to aladinos pizza. I managed to tuck them in bed at peace and decided to leave them a message to read in the morning. Still praying and looking for answers but for now, they still love eachother and me.:-) To all the fighting siblings and parents, may your hearts sleep peacefully tonight
