Mo Chairde, As the curtain draw on 2014, the MEKS would like to wish all our members, friends and families a very Happy Christmas. 2014 turned out to be a magnificent year for the Gaelic athletes of the Kingdom. Kerry’s return to football’s pinnacle in September, having put on trademark performances in the Munster Final and All-Ireland Semi-Final(s), was even more savory considering the manner in which they out-Donegalled Donegal in the final. The fact that the minors backed the victory up with their own success, the first since ’94, means that we have plenty to look forward to once again and that the conveyor belt will never stop turning in the Kingdom. Club success followed at all levels in the Munster campaigns as the leaves turned brown, leaving Brosna, Ardfert and Stacks at the top of their respective piles. I don’t think anyone (apart from the Crokes lads, maybe!) would begrudge the Stacks supporters their success, given the level of entertainment and banter they brought to the campaign. The Kerry hurlers also had a good year in capturing the Division 2 title before narrowly losing out to Kildare in the Christy Ring decider. I would personally like to congratulate fellow Lixnaw man, Eamonn Fitzmaurice, on his incredible achievement this year and also the Lixnaw lads for capturing the County hurling title. Lixnaw carried their form to Munster to beat a fancied Ballyhea outfit from Cork, before succumbing to Bruff in the semi-final. Here in the Middle East, The Society has continued to gain members and momentum. The I.T. department have gotten the Facebook and Twitter accounts up and running and the overseas department, under the stewardship of John Dorgan, have managed to secure the transfer of Jimmy Foley back to Dubai. Congratulations are in order for the Kerrymen that guided Abu Dhabi and Bahrain to win the MEL so far this season, also. There are a number of exciting plans which have been put in motion for 2015, foremost among them the keen desire to get back to what we do best-playing football. It is hoped that in the new year we can realize our aim of having at least 3 competitive games or series before the summer break. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all those travelling a safe trip, all those staying a ‘peaceful’ Christmas and all the Kerry people at home and abroad a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Mise le Meas, Padraig O Duabhlaing. Cathaoirleach, MEKS
