Mobile web users outnumber computer users The number of people who use #mobile phones to surf the #Internet in #China has for the first time overtaken those who use computers, said a report issued by #CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center) on Monday. According to the report, the number of mobile Internet #users reached 527 million by the end of June, accounting for 83.4% of the total of 632 million Chinese netizens. It is the first time that this number has surpassed those going online in traditional ways, such as with personal computers and laptops, which take up 80.9% of the total netizens. Other trends shown in the report include online payments, which saw the greatest increase over the past six months. The number of netizens who make payments using their mobile phones boomed from 125 million in December 2013 to 205 million in June 2014. Unsurprisingly online shopping remains popular, with almost half of China’s netizens using the Internet for shopping purposes. The report also reveals people’s online social habits by comparing the number of users for different social networking mobile apps. Instant messaging apps have seen an overwhelming advantage over other social apps. Adapted from China Daily
