Modern Family Season 6 Episode 9 Recap: Fake Boyfriends That Pass in the Night On last nights Modern Family Season 6 Episode 9, Phil and Claire were convinced that Alex invented a fake boyfriend. The resulting laughs? Definitely not fake. Watch Modern Family Season 6 Episode 9 Online When Modern Family Season 6 Episode 9 began, flowers were left in the Dunphys mailbox. Phil and Haley both believe they could be the recipient. Alex, however, raises eyebrows when she states she has a boyfriend, so perhaps the mystery bouquet was actually intended for the middle child. A shocked Claire and Phil ask about him, and after getting stonewalled, Claire obviously determines that this guy is totally not real. Haley concurs. Phil takes her side and tells Alex to invite him over ... but Alec is moving to Africa after his father got a job helping babies there so he cant make it. After that, Alex goes off on her parents and talks about her rebound date, the details of which also amusingly convince Phil and Claire that he is imaginary. As you could likely see coming a mile away if you watch Modern Family online, the twist is that he was real. As was the rebound date. And his rap sheet. Meanwhile, Jay tells Manny hes a wuss, and hatches a plan to attend a Bark Mitzvah with Stella with the goal of instigating a fight. Yes, that was the goal. The end result, he hoped, was that they would agree to disagree about some of their interests and decide that separate pursuits are okay some of the time. Like Alexs beaus being real, needless to say this backfired. Finally, Mitchells co-worker is getting a divorce and asks if she can stay over, which and Cam convinces Mitchell to agree to, wanting him to show compassion. The only problem? Their new white couch.
