Modern day engineers are baffled as to how the Ajanta caves could have been carved into a solid granite cliff more than 2,000 years ago. The Ajanta caves in Maharashtra, India are about 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE. They are cut into the side of a cliff that is on the south side of a U-shaped gorge and they were originally reached by individual stairs or ladders from the side of the river 35 to 110 feet below. https://youtube/watch?v=FHeel1GNFFY
