Modern supply chain has two components: forward and reverse. Most of successful companies focus on their core competencies – delighting customers through stellar forward supply chain but experience a pervasive lack of control over their reverse logistic processes leading to high cost, poor customer service, reduced asset recovery, low profitability, decreased competitiveness, and loss of shareholder value. Developed economies have well structured reverse logistics processes and they squeeze out massive efficiencies in cost and revenue to create increased shareholder value. As companies focus on delighting customers with their products and focus on gaining market share, reverse logistics process has become more complex, inefficient, and expensive. More importantly it is also not their core competency to manage reverse logistics.
