Modest little partridgeberry (Mitchella repens) often goes - TopicsExpress

Modest little partridgeberry (Mitchella repens) often goes unnoticed by those not looking closely most of the year. But in the spring when it opens up pairs of pure white flowers and in the winter when it is decorated by bright red berries … people notice it. Despite its vine-like appearance, it is not a vine but is considered a woody sub-shrub. The small leaves stay green all year in Georgia. It is native throughout the state and all of the Eastern US. One curious aspect of this plant: flowers are produced in pairs which share a common calyx and as a result, only one berry is produced for each pair of flowers.
