Modis BJP and RSS stalwarts are at it again. They want to reshape and recreate India in the Hindutva image as conceived by Sangh Parivar. While the Prime Minister of India was busy yesterday signing 16 agreements with visiting President Putin of Russia for more nuclear power and military cooperation, his loyal activists were organizing mass conversions of Christians and Muslims into Hinduism (see the attached photos from different Indian cities). Modis followers believe that during Mughal rule and British Colonial Rule of India, Hindus were coerced into converting to Islam and Christianity respectively and they need to be reconverted to Hindus. Thus the attached scenes of Suddhi (reconversion) from Agra and Aligarh. A BJP leader from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath (shown in the attached photo addressing the crowd), claims that thousands have already converted and the campaign should proceed to all the big cities. Noor Mohammad family (shown in the last photo) claims that people are being offered major incentives such as food ration cards and preferential employment if they become Hindus through Suddhi. I would not have expected this to happen in Gandhi and Nehrus India in the 21st century but I have been wrong before about Modi and his Shiv Sena ambitions. Historians can disagree objectively as to how Christianity and Islam spread in the Indian sub continent but to use the conversion argument to harass minorities in India is a bad political stunt that will hurt Indian democracy and will ultimately hurt Modi as well.
