Modi’s visit cannot change disputed status of J&K: Prof Butt Srinagar, October 24 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), Professor Abdul Ghani Butt has said that the visits of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to the territory cannot change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. Professor Abdul Ghani Butt in a media interview in Srinagar said that Kashmir was an internationally recognized dispute and the BJP-led government would have to take serious and solid steps for its resolution. He said that India had converted Kashmir into a military garrison but could not change the status of the Kashmir dispute by doing politics on the flood devastations in the territory. Professor Abdul Ghani Butt said that the first priority of the Indian Prime Minister was to celebrate Diwali with troops in Siachen as he first went there and passed the whole day with them. He said that the people of Kashmir were sacrificing their precious lives for a sacred cause and wanted end to India’s occupation of their motherland. The APHC leader deplored that curfew-like situation was created in the territory on the visit of the Indian Prime Minister and strict restrictions were imposed to stop anti-India demonstrations besides detaining Hurriyet leaders in their houses and police stations. Professor Abdul Ghani Butt said that meaningful and result-oriented dialogue was the only solution to the lingering dispute as trend of settling conflicts through negotiations was increasing in the world. He said that Pakistan and India as nuclear powers could not afford war. He said that permanent peace could not be guaranteed in the region without settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
