Mohan Heble Safety & Fire Technician for Qatar & Abu Dhabi Designation: Safety & Fire Technician Location:Qatar & Abu Dhabi JOB SUMMARY This position includes assisting United Safety Senior Site Coordinator with the implementation of operating companies (clientele) occupational health & safety standards and industry recommended practices. This is achieved through and by United Safetys policy, standards, procedures and management direction. This is conducted in a variety of environments in the upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum industry, including refinery, chemical, upgrader, power generation, plant turnaround and construction projects. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Senior Site Representative assists in planning, organizing and controlling required activities with on-site client representative(s) for plant and construction. Including: identifying and implementing client & company site specific requirements; obtains consensus for the planning and implementing of contingencies, rescue and required daily work activities; coordinates and accounts for the deployment of company personnel and equipment; inspections & tests plans, equipment & systems ongoing to ensure operational readiness Under the direction of the Senior Site Representative, assists in ensuring installation and dismantling (deploying) of various safety equipment. This includes: transporting equipment within the worksite; strategically placing required equipment including: gas detection systems, barriers and signs. Under the direction of the Senior Site Representative, assists in operating and ensuring function, operational readiness of various equipment and gas testers to ensure response quality. Including: electronic and tube type gas detectors & systems, cellular and two-way radio systems and various small hand tools. Under the direction of the Senior Site Representative, assists in ensuring company equipment is inspected and tested a minimum of twice per shift. Including: following maintenance standards, evaluating equipment condition, keeping accurate documentation, function testing equipment, performing disassembly, reassembly, cleaning, disinfecting in accordance with company procedure (QA/QC personnel) Fire and Safety Technician: Essential Tasks and Objectives Conduct Job Observations Risk & Hazard Identification Incident/Accident Reporting Provide leadership Ensure ongoing operational readiness of all equipment, that the proper equipment is being used for the job, that it has been rigged in properly and that it is being used for the purpose intended Assist Safety Watch Lead with all their duties through demonstration, coaching and inspecting. Assist the Senior Site Representative in the evaluation of personnel Assists the Senior Site Representative as required in the placement of Safety Watch and Safety Watch Leads while the Senior Site Representative is in meetings. Actively Participates in Pre-job / Tailgate Meetings / Contractor Foremans Meetings Assists the Senior Site Representative in conducting Daily USL Safety Meetings Provides site tours for Safety Watch. Under the guidance and direction of the Senior Site Representative, oversees the work performed by the Gas Testers Contractor Liaison Actively supports and works with Senior Site Representative under the direction of the Safety Specialist or United Safety Operations Manager KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Problem Solving. Including : identifying, assessing and correcting problems; keeping accurate documentation; preventing problem reoccurrence; trouble shooting equipment; solving problems within personal limitations Effective Communication (verbal and written). Including: completing required reports and forms (accurately and timely); exercising listening and speaking skills; communication with operations and proper reporting procedures Strong Interpersonal Skills. Including: leading others and representing the company; assisting the Coordinator to supervise and train company and client personnel; interacting with client representatives, crews, the public and co-workers; tolerating and negotiating diplomatically with others; dealing with and analysing situations. Safety Practice. Understanding and applying: company and client policies and procedures; industry practices & fundamental regulation; emergency response plans; specific job operations and equipment. Monitoring: specific work areas; work habits of others; providing and promoting safety on-site. Conducting: drills, rescues, inspections & tests, site hazard assessments and meetings on-site; wearing required personal protective equipment Solid working knowledge of Confined Space & Fall Protection Policies and Procedures in the SOP Knowing the respective Codes of Practice necessary to perform an accurate Needs Assessment, Hazard/Risk Assessment(s) and Rescue Plan Preparation, CSE and Attendant duties. Must establish good working relationship with clients Effective motivational leadership skills which includes: mentoring, coaching, motivation and communication Ability to understand and comply with USL Privacy Policy. Understands USL Working Alone, Violence and Harassment Policy and Procedures. Understands relevant OH&S regulations and codes. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE NEBOSH Certification Experience: 3 - 5 years Trained in Breathing Air equipment operations including SCBA and breathing air lines, and the inspection and maintenance thereof.
