A group of teachers told Greater Kashmir that they have been working in different schools of Kashmir province for years while the government has been overlooking their demand for transfer to Jammu province. “We have been meeting leaders and education department officers with the demand for setting up a transfer policy for teachers so that we could serve in our home districts. However, the authorities have so far failed to address our demands”, they said. The teachers alleged that the education department was ordering some inter-province transfers thereby violating norms. “Some candidates have been transferred from Kashmir to Jammu while a many others from Jammu to Kashmir provinces under political pressure and favouritism. We are poor and without political support and thus we are suffering while those having political support are easily getting their transfers done”, agitated teachers told a leading English daily. “We staged protest at Press Colony Srinagar yesterday to press for our long pending demand”, they said and accused the education minister and other officers of violating norms.
