Moi urges Cord to change leader to win elections By Kel Wesh hivisasa Rongai MP Raymond Moi has urged the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) to change the flag bearer if they want to win the next election. Moi said this was the only way the coalition could win and not through a referendum. Heasked the opposition leaders to drop the referendum call and strategise for the 2017 general election. The legislator said the referendum issue will not see light of day since the coalition does not have the numbers in parliament. He said it would be important for the constitution to be implemented first instead of rushing for a referendum. “The constitution had a grace period of three years,” said the son of former President Daniel arap Moi. “It is good we give it a chance and blend where possible. The call for a referendum is a premature approach to politics,” he added. Moi added that the economy needed to grow first since devolution was consuming a lot of funds in its implementation. “If the country’s economy could not sustain a single government satisfactorily, yet now it has 47 more, should we conduct another referendum?” asked Moi. He added that Cord has numbers but the problem with their supporters is that they do not get identification cards nor register as voters. He said that the coalition should go back to the grassroots and find a better formula to enable their supporters to vote come 2017 instead of claiming that the electoral commission rigged the election. Moi accused the coalition of trying to make its leader, Raila Odinga, remain relevant by creating a crisis where there was none. Get Nakurus breaking news daily. SMS “Nakuru” to 22570 (10Ksh).
