Molestation slur on Karimganj teacher (Times of India) Silchar: Police arrested a teacher of Karimganj College in the states Karimganj district on Thursday for allegedly attempting to molest a female student during his private tuition class. Sources said Fazlul Karim (42) was arrested on the basis of an FIR filed by the girls father, a resident of the Subhash Nagar locality of Karimganj, at the local police station. The girls father accused the teacher, who lives in a rented house in the Subhash Nagar area and runs a tutorial centre, of attempting to molest his daughter last Monday when she came for her class. The girl managed to escape. The FIR was filed after she narrated the incident to her parents. Karim hails from Khagail village, near Nilambazar, in Karimganj district. After news of the alleged molestation spread, local youths went to Karims house on Thursday morning and manhandled him. Following his arrest, police sent the teacher to Silchar Medical College Hospital after he complained of feeling unwell. In protest against Karims arrest, some people blocked a portion of NH-6, which connects Karimganj and Agartala, at Mubarakpur, Nilambazar and Asimganj. The blockade began at 11 am and was continuing well into Thursday evening. Hundreds of trucks and other vehicles have lined up along the road. The agitators are demanding the immediate release of the teacher. Meanwhile, members of BJP, VHP and other organizations are demonstrating in Karimganj town, seeking strict action against Karim. They are also demanding that the district administration defuse the situation along NH-6. Karimganj SP Dilip Kumar Dey threatened to take action against the agitators if the blockade is not withdrawn immediately. The girls father accused the teacher of attempting to molest his daughter last Monday when she came for her class.
