Mom forgot that Coal is a rescue dog. Shes been working with him on positive reinforcement and he gets lots of yay, Coalies! but last night he started to munch on a second straight blanket. Mom yelled Noooooo from across the room (it was second nature) and he cowered. Mom hasnt seen that kind of look of fear ever. Not fear that she would hit him (mom would never do that) but that he had done something really wrong. Mom sat with him and talked with him for a while about how he will always be welcome here even if he eats a twinkies blanket, but that she would really prefer that he didnt destroy the house. And Coal listened.He is not afraid of mom. Mom is going to try really hard never to yell at him again. Who knows what memory that triggered? Poor boy. Yes, he is being crate-trained. We are setting him up for success. I must say that he has gutted a raccoon chew toy this morning like no ones business....lovely boy. xoxo
