Mom had a date with Glen Ford? YEP! A couple of years ago I started recording my mom telling stories of her past. I recommend this to all people whose mothers are still with them. I wouldnt advise telling the moms or dads they are being recorded. I recorded mother talking about a date she had with the actor Glen Ford. They attended a Military Ball in which my mother was the bell but much to Glens dismay was not destined to remain his bell.. During the evening she was observed politely dodging Glens touchy feely advances.by a highly decorated Naval Captain which was a gentleman in the true since of the word. The Captain noticed she was in need of a distraction so he ask Glen for her hand in a dance. They danced and danced and danced and danced all night. He was very careful to keep her in his protection often implementing cunning strategys.to avoid turning her back over to Glen. Glen was out maneuvered every time he tried to retrieve my mom back to his side. You see the Captain had given orders his men to enlist and deploy an army of girls who were eager to get a promised autograph and picture.with the star. True chivalry was in white that night ,Glen was no worse for the wear he found a girl that was ,well, not a lady in distress GLen not being able to get close to my mom gave up and left with the girl who was more suitable to his idea of a good date, .My mother recalled the story with a grin on her face and a description of Captains Metals of Valor pressed to her cheek.as they danced. It was a wonderful adventure being surrounded by navy men under direct orders from their superior officer to flank and protect. .THe handsome Captain called my mother every time he was stationed in Los Angles and for the next 15 years there was a sweet romance between a lady and a gentleman whose dates began with roses and ended with a kiss.
