Mom read this book when I was in Jr. High. She cried and babbled for a week about this book. She pushed for me to read it. After reading it back then, I cried and had nightmares for years. Today, marveling at the thought of an 18 year old young girl migrating to an unknown country on her own, alone to face an uncertain future without support. She was never given credit by the family for what she did. For the sacrifices, hard work, tenacity, and strength she had in doing what she did for the entire family. Today my mother is more than just my Mother. She was a pioneer, she relied on nobody for her future and used her strength to provide for so many others. She was never thanked properly but today my heart is filled with awe, inspiration, and more love than ever before. This book will be re-read again in her honor.
