Mom update 37 (Day 40) I get info from so many sources sometimes it is confusing. Dr. Hamilton told me mom did (and does) have shingles. He said they had it under control and that is the reason they removed much of the room restrictions. Mom still has MRSA, but these days if there is not an open wound that can easily come in contact with someone, they do not use the same isolation protocol they did the last time she had it so bad. The combo of meds for neuropathy, morphine with percocet in between makes her very sleepy and disoriented. She is very confused and cannot think of words quite often, but I am told that will eventually go away. Her appetite is back in full force but it hurts her very much to eat and she still has a little trouble swallowing. The neuropathy is in her mouth, tongue and ear. I am not sure if this is due to diabetes or the infection, or both. She says that food and liquids makes her mouth and tongue burn. (I am wondering if this could be from the shingles as well). The swelling in her face is definitely going down and responding to the meds. SHe is still on antibiotics 24/7 and will be a few more weeks. She is doing little sessions of therapy each day. The darn therapist has ruined her flowers because they bother her and make her wheeze a little. She keeps moving them back and forth to the bathroom and closing the door and petals are falling off everywhere. Hell, I think she should put on a mask or get another therapist. She can also take a Zyrtec or something. Other than that I still love our staff. We should know something about moms possibility of being transferred to Siskins this week. I really hate to leave our family at 1 south and realize she will not get that same care and attention at Siskins, but Siskins has a much better reputation than anyone else in town. I am going to sneak mom a slaw dog today. She has been craving one. :-) Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts.
