Moment For Meditation - November 17, 2014 Rock Steady, Look Sharpay Evans There are days in our lives when things seem to be going so well we wonder if we are awake or dreaming. Then, BAM! The phone rings, the door opens, or we catch a glimpse of horror out of the corner of our eye. The earth underneath us begins to shift, tilt, and shake. We are on the verge of being carried from safe and sound to termoil and terror. Suddenly, the freedom we were experiencing and the happy moment we were clapping our hands about are being called from our midst. We are reeling from the shock of it all and we are desperately searching for God in the moment. If we are not careful, we will miss Him. We will not see that He is very much a part of these events because we are looking at the situation and not Him. It is very tempting to fall apart when things around us seem to be falling apart. Go with the flow is still a popular thought and process of our day. The difficult comes because we have not completely chosen which flow to follow. Yesterday, in our Church School lesson, we learned about the flow of water from the Temple; the flow that Ezekiel walked in. If we are going to be carried away, shouldnt it be by the Flow of the Holy Spirit? We know that God watches over us and covers us and knows about our comings and going; these are the things we sing about. But, how much effort do we put into watching Him? How much time do we spend making sure that when we see terror out of the corner of our eye, the rest of our focus is on Him? When the earth all around us starts to quake, faith in God allows us to steady ourselves, knowing that we will not fall. When earth all around us becomes sinking sand, Jesus is the rock that keeps us from sinking with everything else. We know that when the earth settles itself, everything that is not desired by God will be gone. Everything that remains is supposed to be there. When God shakes the earth, He is sifting something. He knows what He is doing and nobody can do it better. We should make it a priority to know that He who watches the smallest of details certainly watches all of the details, even us. Today, steady yourself in the Word of God. Know that no matter what happens, He has considered your life in His plan. Be mindful that when God moves the earth, something is forged, something is found, something is freed, and something faced, something is fixed, something is formed to the glory of God. What will become of Gods moving the earth will be joy to someone, somewhere. Read Read Hebrews 12: 25-29
