Moments of Glory Prayer Army - MOGPA Sunday December 28th.2014 GIVE YOUR HEART AS A GIFT Matthew 2:11 “And when they had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped Him. And they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh” One tradition which can be said to be common across the globe is the presentation of gifts to new born babies and their mothers. So it was only natural that, the three wise men or the Magi as they are sometimes called presented gifts to baby Jesus when they went to visit. They presented gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh as the scripture tells us. From the way the Bible described them and the gifts they brought; it was an indication that they were rich. Today Jesus has been born for us and I would want to ask ‘what gift are you giving to Jesus’. Maybe you are thinking you are poor so what can you give to Jesus? Someone else might also say that, Jesus is the King of Kings and he does not require a gift. Who told you that Kings do not require gifts? What I want you to know is that, baby Jesus requires a very particular gift from you and no matter your status; rich or poor, young or old, you are capable of giving him that gift. To quote from the fourth stanza of Christina Georgina Rosetti’s song In The Bleak Mid-Winter “What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd I would give a lamb; if I was a wise man, I would do my part; yet what can I give Him-Give Him my heart”. The song writer is telling is us that, the best gift to give Jesus is your heart. Jesus wants to make your heart his place of dwelling and that is the gift he desires from you. It doesn’t matter whether you are educated or not, rich or poor, young or old, white or black Jesus requires your heart as a gift; to make it his dwelling place. Have you surrendered your heart to Jesus? If not, what are you waiting for? Give Jesus the best gift in this festive period and that is your heart. Confession for Today I declare that my heart is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit in the Mighty name of Jesus.
