Mon. Sept. 1, 2014 REFLECTING HIS GLORY (1) Genesis 1:27-31 KEY SCRIPTURE: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27). Reflecting on the glory of God implies making concerted effort to manifest the glory of God in our lives. God originally created human beings in His image and after His likeness with the intention that man will reflect His glory and honour. Hence, God gave man authority, power and dominion over the things that He has created. “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Gen. 1:28). The authority, power and dominion given to man was a divine empowerment so as to reflect the glory of God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). After the fall of man, the authority, power and dominion was not taken away but was perverted by the devil and used not to the glory of God. Hence, despite the sinfulness of man, man has made a lot of exploits and advancement in this world with the power of creativity in science and technology. You can imagine the glorious things that man would have created in this world if there are no sins and wickedness. Nevertheless, the first Adam disappointed God in reflecting His glory, therefore God made the second Adam to restore His glory. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “For if by one mans offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).
