Mona Update! Check this video out!!!!!! Mona is learning to obey some commands and she really LOVES it! I love seeing her so proud when she is praised and receives her treat. So far we are working on come when called and sit. She is doing pretty great so far with both. :) We had a fantastic day yesterday and a fantastic night last night! During the day Dom and I worked but Cathy visited with Mona several times. We have been using a homeopathic stress reliever called Rescue Remedy and so far it seems to help. Hooray! During the night last night Mona left the room and explored the house. We left high-value treats hidden around the house as suggested by Linda Gonzalez here. She found and ate them all! Great suggestion. At about 2:00am we heard a crash. We leaped up and ran to the living room. Mona had pushed a tray holding some candles off the coffee table. Nothing broke, but normally this kind of thing would scare her and cause a period of shut down. Although she retreated to her room, she walked back out after a few minutes! She went to the sliding door and started to move the hanging blinds and chew on them. She was letting us know she wanted to go outside! How could we refuse that?!? We knew it may take some work to get her back in the house but we opened the door and the blinds for her anyway. She retreated to her room while Dom opened the blinds and the door. Probably because it makes a racket and because she was worried she would be forced outside. She is always worried about being made to go somewhere before she is ready. We went back to our room and waited and watched through our window to the backyard. Sure enough after a few minutes we saw her outside in the backyard! Dom stood at the window and watched her for nearly 20 minutes. She went potty immediately. She smelled and explored and wandered around. And after about 30 minutes she came back in the house on her own!!!! She went back to her room and laid down and we closed her door at about 3:00am and finally got some sleep. Haha. That was a huge hurdle she overcame and it showed much improved self confidence and sense of safety. I hope she can continue this! Today we work and Cathy will visit and work on some training. But for the next four days one of us will be home with her all day and we are so looking forward to that! :) P.S. Check out the last sit, as soon as she does it she perks her ears up. I think shes proud of herself :)
